Nicor plans open house for natural gas updates on Madison Street in Elmhurst

Elmhurst residents should brace for loud noise from release at Kent and Hawthorn Streets.

Nicor Gas is in the process of modernizing the system that delivers natural gas safely and reliably to its customers. The project requires the replacement of a 20″ natural gas main on Madison Street between Hawthorne Avenue and Kearsage Avenue.

On Wednesday, July 26 between 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., the project will require expelling a natural gas release (masked with an orange scent) in two locations, Madison and Kent and Madison and Hawthorn. This natural gas release will create a loud noise that will be heard in the surrounding area. Residents should not be concerned with this process, as it is safe, highly controlled, and necessary for the replacement of the gas main.

Nicor Gas will hold an informational open house at Madison Early Childhood Education Center on Tuesday, July 25 from 4-7 p.m. NICOR Project managers will discuss the project, and will be available to answer any questions regarding the gas release and the overall project and how it affects residents.
