LWV-Elmhurst to celebrate 85th anniversary, community invited

The community is invited to join the League of Women Voters of Elmhurst on Thursday, August 24 at 6 p.m. at the Wilder Mansion, 211 S. Prospect Ave., as they celebrate their 85th anniversary. The event is open to the public.

Complimentary appetizers, dessert and non-alcoholic beverages and a cash bar will be available. “The Long Road to Victory – from Pedestal to Politics” and “Prison in the Battle for Woman Suffrage” will be presented at 7 p.m. Please RSVP to Katie Marsico, [email protected].

During the past 85 years, the LWV of Elmhurst has worked for referenda to support good schools, passage of the 1970 Illinois Constitution, protections of voting rights of citizens, the City Manager form of government in Elmhurst, the unit school district concept for Elmhurst, separation of storm and sanitary sewers, referendum for a new library and preservation of the Wilder Mansion and the land around it, many candidate and issue forums and registration of countless voters.

The League is and has always been an issues oriented, volunteer, member-directed organization that neither supports nor opposes candidates or parties. It is committed to open, responsive, and effective government brought about by informed, involved citizens with membership open to both men and women. The League looks forward to celebrating with the community. Please join them!
