The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Battery
July 11
Police said that subsequent to a report of a traffic crash (vehicle vs. pedestrian) near North and Route 83 at around 6:47 p.m., it was found that the victim had gotten out of his vehicle to confront another driver in reference to his poor driving. According to police, the suspect then struck the victim with his vehicle and left the area. The suspect then contacted police and came back to the accident. After speaking with both parties, they both declined to sign complaints. The victim was treated for minor injuries.
July 9
Police said that subsequent to a call for a battery at a hotel in the 500 block of W. Grand Ave. at around 2:56 a.m., a complainant related there were approximately 10 subjects upstairs on the fourth floor fighting. She also observed blood in the hallway. A subject was located in the hotel pacing back and forth and had blood on his right cheek and several bruises on the left side of his face. The subject refused to answer any questions and did not wish to follow up with charges if a suspect was located. No other subjects were located in the hotel.
July 7
• Franklin Alrich, 31, of Carpentersville, was charged with two counts of battery in the 700 block of N. York at around 8:02 a.m. Police said a victim related that he picked up Alrich for work. Upon arrival, a physical altercation ensued, according to police, and Alrich punched the victim in the eye.
• Police said that while a victim was working at a car wash in the 600 block of W. North Ave. at around 2:16 p.m., a customer, who did not want her receipt, threw the receipt back at the victim. The victim put the receipt back into the suspect’s car, but the suspect then reportedly exited the vehicle swearing, threw the receipt at the victim, and hit the victim on the arm. An investigation is pending.
June 16-June 30
• A complainant at a restaurant in the 200 block of N. York told police at around 3:14 p.m. that between the above time dates, unknown suspects used a $20 counterfeit bill. The complainant stated they believe it was used by a customer without knowing it. The bill was confirmed counterfeit by the complainant’s bank.

July 9
A victim in the 400 block of E. Schiller told police at around 3:08 p.m. that while she was at East End Pool, an unknown suspect appeared on the pool deck and began verbally abusing her. The suspect then reportedly walked to the parking lot and broke the driver’s side mirror on the victim’s automobile. The victim declined to pursue a criminal complaint.

July 8
Officers responded to a pub in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 1:08 a.m. for a report of an impending fight outside. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victims who stated a group became upset with them when victim’s wife reportedly splashed water at them. Neither victim could point out any suspects, nor did they wish to sign complaints. Both victims were taken home for the night.

July 8
A juvenile near Park and Arlington victim ran into the police station at around 2:12 a.m. and stated her father had strangled her while driving home. The victim’s father came into the police department shortly after and officers were able to talk to both parties. The reporting officer did not observe any marks around the victim’s neck. Due to conflicting statements, no arrests were made and the victim was transported to her mother’s home for the night.
July 6
Police said officers responded to the report of a domestic between a mother and son in the 400 block of Verret St. at around 7:07 p.m. The suspect was found to be tossing things around the house and began “wrestling” with the victim in the kitchen, according to police. Neither parties showed any signs of injuries and agreed to stay separated for the night.

July 12
Police said that subsequent to a call for a speeding auto that struck a pole, the vehicle was located at St. Charles and Route 83 with Randy Edwards, 59, of Addison, asleep behind the wheel. Edwards was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, driving while license suspended and improper parking on a roadway.
July 11
Joseph Casella, 22, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, speeding, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Babcock and West at around 1:03 a.m.
July 10
Alejandro Calderon-Decide, 33, of Lombard, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Villa at around 2:07 a.m.
July 8
• Alejandra Guerrero, 26, of Lombard, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near Roosevelt and Route 83 at around 8:48 a.m.
• Sergio Hernandez, 27, of Chicago, was charged with DUI and illegal transportation of open alcohol in the 200 block of N. Highview at around 3:50 a.m. Police said Hernandez was found to be sleeping in his car with open alcohol.
• Volodymyr Mazur, 44, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, violating a one-way street, no valid driver’s license and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Eggleston at around 1:16 a.m.
• Benito Vazquez, 21, of Elmwood Park, was charged with DUI, speeding, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Melrose at around 4:49 a.m.

July 12
• Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near North and York at around 4:05 p.m., the driver of the vehicle, Jesse Loucks, 22, of Lombard, was observed concealing an unknown object under his seat. Police said it was learned that Loucks was attempting to conceal a cannabis-smoking pipe, a cannabis grinder, and cannabis. Loucks was issued four citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, disobeying a stop sign and no insurance. During a search of the vehicle, police said officers located pills in the purse of Katelyn R. Gozdal, 20, of Lombard. She admitted she did not have a prescription for the pills, according to police. Gozdal was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
• Police said that subsequent to a call for drug activity at condominiums in the 800 block of N. York at around 11:07 p.m., juvenile suspects were found to be in violation of curfew. One of the juveniles also was found to be in possession of cannabis. That juvenile was charged with possession of cannabis and curfew. The other two juveniles were charged with curfew. All were released to their parents.
July 10
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Schiller at around 12:48 a.m., a reporting officer smelled the strong odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. The officer could also see two beer cans located near the back passenger seat, according to police. Police said a search of the vehicle yielded a brown paper cigar containing suspected cannabis. Joseph Rubio, 20, of Elmhurst, was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, possession of cannabis and driving without headlights.
July 9
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Haven and Schiller at around 2:51 a.m., Vanesa S. Morales, 28, of Chicago, the driver of the vehicle, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and a straw with heroin residue. Morales was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane usage and no insurance. Ronald J. Solarczyk, 61, of Chicago, was found to be in possession of crack cocaine, heroin/cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to police. Solarczyk was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Police said K Lynn M. Andruszko, 22, of Chicago, was found to be in possession of needles and a straw with heroin residue. Andruszko was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
July 8
Police said officers responded to the 300 block of W. Lake at around 7:30 p.m. for the strong odor of burnt cannabis coming from a parked vehicle. Upon arrival, officers made contact with suspects who admitted to smoking cannabis prior to officers’ arrival, according to police. A search of the vehicle yielded cannabis, police said. Yasmin Rodriguez, 28, of Whiting, was in possession of a cannabis grinder, according to police, and was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. The other suspect was released without charges.
July 6
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Spring at around 5:58 p.m., officers made contact with Troy Harris, 33, of Carpentersville, who was attempting to conceal over-the-counter medication. According to police, Harris admitted to stealing the medication. A search of the vehicle yielded a glass pipe, over-the-counter medication, numerous empty bags of heroin, and numerous hypodermic needles, according to police. Harris admitted to possessing the drug contraband, police said, and was charged with one felony count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

July 10
A complainant in the 400 block of E. Vallette St. at around 5 a.m., she and her dog awoke to the sound of thunder. When she went to let her dog out, she noticed the north side front bay window of the residence was cracked. The area was searched for rocks or BB pellets, but none were located.

July 11
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 900 block of S. Swain Ave. at around 12:23 a.m. A victim told police that while sitting in his parked car, he witnessed three suspects exit an older model Toyota and run up to vehicles in the driveways of various residences on the block. The victim attempted to confront the suspects, but then realized he was outnumbered. The suspects ran back to the unknown Toyota and fled the scene prior to an officer’s arrival. The three suspects were able to remove a white Ping golf bag from an unlocked Jeep. Two of the suspects were described as males who wore black hoodies which were pulled over their faces, and dark jeans. The other suspect was described as a male wearing a red hoodie which was pulled over his face, and dark jeans.
July 10-July 11
Burglary was reported in the 800 block of S. Route 83. A complainant told police the front office area of a business behind the counter had been ransacked between the above dates with the pullout register drawer
on the floor and cash missing. The complainant noticed the east service door in the loading area was partially opened with pry marks on the door frame and on the office door.
July 7-July 10
Theft was reported at the Addison Parking Deck between the above dates, according to police. An officer was advised the fire extinguishers on Level 4 and Level 6 were missing. A building maintenance employee advised they were cleaning the parking deck on Friday and they last saw the fire extinguishers at 9 a.m. The surrounding area was checked for the fire extinguishers with no results.
July 9
Police said officers responded to a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 10:39 p.m. for a retail theft in progress. Officers made contact with the cashier who stated two suspects left the store with bottles of liquor. Both suspects loaded the liquor into a white Dodge Durango and proceeded northbound on York Road. Suspect 1 was described as a black male between 20 to 30 years old with a full beard wearing a red snap-back baseball cap, a white T-shirt with an unknown picture on it, dark colored jeans, black shoes and a long chain necklace. The second suspect was described as a black male around 40 years old with a full beard wearing a Chicago Bears cap, a black Superman T-shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and glasses.
July 8
• Elise Carr, 21, of Westchester, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 10:13 p.m. Police said a reporting officer spoke to someone in loss prevention who stated she observed Carr place five pieces of assorted cosmetics in her purse and leave the store without paying. Carr admitted to taking make-up and leaving the store, according to police.
• A victim in the 500 block of Indiana told police at around 5:53 p.m. that he received information that his package had been delivered. When he returned home, the package was opened and some of the items were missing from the package.
• A victim at a hotel in the 500 block of W. Grand Ave. told police at around 1 a.m. that an unknown suspect(s) entered his locked van while it was parked at the hotel. Taken was a black plastic tote.
July 7
A victim in the 100 block of N. Clinton told police at around 4:07 p.m. that he received a phone call from a credit card company inquiring if he had applied for a Target card online. The victim stated he did not apply for a card with Target and was told that the card would be terminated. The victim ran a check of his credit and learned other credit cards had been fraudulently opened in his name.
July 6
• A victim near Mitchell and the Prairie Path told police at around 2:35 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked Gray Honda Odyssey and took two credit cards from her purse on the floor near the center console. The victim was notified about the fraudulent transactions through text messages, and has since cancelled her credit cards.
• A complainant at a cigar store in the 100 block of E. Butterfield told police at around 10:46 a.m. that two people came into the store and attempted to purchase cigarettes and pop, and both credit cards were declined. Both suspects reportedly used two different stolen credit cards; one was taken by the clerk and given to an officer and the other was taken back by one of the suspects. Suspect 1 was described as a white female between 25 and 30 years old, around 5-6 and between 185 and 195 pounds with orange/red hair, wearing an orange pullover sleeveless top with a red T-shirt and large dark sunglasses. Suspect 2 was described as a white male between 25 and 30 years old, around 5-8 and between 165-175 pounds with orange/red hair wearing a blue Cubs hat with a sticker on the brim, a short-sleeve red/white stripe shirt with white stars on blue, tan/gray pants with rips, black and white gym shoes, a tear drop under the left eye and a tattoo on the right side top of the hand.
June 22
A victim in the 400 block of S. Cottage Hill told police at around 1:10 p.m. that she was advised by LifeLock her Social Security number was used to open four different credit cards and one credit card that she already had open was used. The victim does have the credit card that was used in her possession.
