Elmhurst Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

June 22

An officer arrived in the 300 block of N. Ridgeland at around 3:56 p.m. to assist the fire department. Upon arrival, the officer found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The curb, street, parkway and a small tree were burned from the fire, but the tree did not appear to be damaged enough to necessitate removal.

Domestic incident, domestic battery

June 27

Police said that subsequent to a verbal argument between brother and sister at around 1:50 p.m., the suspect punched the victim in the arm. The suspect attempted to walk away from victim but she followed him outside at which point he started throwing rocks at her, according to police. Neither party had any physical marks on them. No charges were filed at this time.

June 28

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop for speeding 112 mph in a 50 mph zone, Modesto Jurado, 18, of Villa Park, was found to be driving under the influence of drugs. He also was wanted on a DuPage County warrant, according to police. He was charged with DUI-drugs and speeding.

June 25

• Lukas McGee, 30, of Chicago, was charged with possession of liquor on public property within passenger area of a vehicle, driving while license suspended, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and I-290 at around 3:43 a.m. Police said open alcohol was located inside McGee’s vehicle.

• Nsika Okoh, 42, of Streamwood, was charged with DUI in the 200 block of N. Route 83 at around 2:41 a.m. Police said that subsequent to the report of a suspicious vehicle, Okoh had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Harassment, threats

June 27

A victim in the 200 block of N. Addison told police at around 10:20 a.m. that they received threatening text messages from the suspect because the suspect was angry he had not been hired for a construction project. Officers spoke to the suspect who stated he went to the construction site in order to retrieve tools, and denied harassing the victim. The suspect was advised to cease all contact. The victim declined to pursue charges.

June 23-June 26

A complainant told police that she works for a subcontractor for Elmhurst Hospital and Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. She terminated an employee from the Joliet location and has now been receiving unwanted phone calls on her personal cell phone and nuisance postings on the business website from the terminated employee between the above dates.

June 22

A victim in the 100 block of Fairlane Avenue told police at around 5:09 p.m. that her ex-husband has been harassing her through both text messages and emails. An officer will follow up with complaints.

Possession of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, controlled substance

June 28

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop for disobeying a traffic control device in the 1000 block of Riverside Drive at around 7:19 p.m., an officer smelled the odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded a small bag of cannabis and a prepared cannabis blunt in the back seat, and a cut straw containing a white powder on the driver’s seat. Passengers 1 and 2 were issued citations for possession of cannabis and released. The driver was released to his parent pending further investigation.

June 25

Theophilus A. Sumrell, 28, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at around 4:42 p.m.

June 23

Michael Sims, 21, of Lombard, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, illegal window tinting and no driver’s license on person subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Villa at around 1:36 a.m.

Police said that subsequent to a report of a suspicious auto in the 100 block of Industrial Drive at around 11:42 p.m., officers approached the vehicle and could see a syringe in the suspect’s right arm. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but he did not comply with an officer’s verbal commands. The suspect sped away last seen heading southbound on York Road toward westbound I-290. This case is pending investigation.

Suspicious circumstances

June 27

• According to police, a complainant related that Desiree K. Ducksworth, 20, of Glendale Heights, attempted to cash a fraudulent check. Police said earlier in the morning, the business received information from another currency exchange that a fraudulent check was cashed using Ducksworth’s information and called police. She later admitted to cashing other checks prior to today’s incident because she needed to pay bills, police said. Ducksworth was charged with felony forgery.

• A complainant told police that a subject called him requesting a ride from Manneheim/I-290 back to Romeoville at around 11:34 a.m. The subject entered the complainant’s car and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Minutes into the car ride, the subject became unresponsive. The medics responded to the area, administered Narcan to the subject who then became conscious, was breathing, and was transported to Elmhurst Hospital. The subject admitted to injecting heroin.

June 25

An officer from the Elmhurst Police Department responded with K-9 to assist Hanover Park Police for a burglar alarm in the 6000 block of Church in Hanover Park and found an open dock door along with a suspicious auto without registration parked outside of a business. The canine was deployed and cleared the interior of the warehouse facility; nobody was located inside.

June 23

A witness reports observing a suspect’s vehicle parked in the parking lot in a suspicious manner in the 100 block of Haven at around 7:49 a.m. Suspect #1, described as a white male around 28 years old and around 200 pounds with blond hair and wearing a purple shirt and dark pants, exited the vehicle and removed both front and rear license plates from a vehicle revealing a second set of license plates attached to the vehicle. Suspect #2, described as a black male around 25 years old with braided hair and wearing a white hooded sweatshirt then exited the vehicle and removed his pants revealing a second set of pants which he was wearing. The vehicle was gone upon officer’s arrival.

June 27

• Michael Bergheger, 18, of Elmhurst, was charged with retail theft and possession of cannabis in the 400 block of N. York at around 9:15 p.m. Police said a reporting officer responded for a retail theft where a male subject took a pack of cigarettes and left a gas station in a red Dodge. Bergheger, a passenger in the vehicle driven by a juvenile suspect, was later located and found to be in possession of cannabis. The driver was cited for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia and released to his parents.

• A complainant at a gas station in the 500 block of W. Lake St. told police at around 5:12 p.m. that an unknown suspect was prepaying for gas and attempted to use a counterfeit $20 bill. The suspect stated she had just come from the bank where she withdrew $300 from her account through the ATM. She provided the withdraw slip dated 6/27/17. The counterfeit $20 bill was placed into evidence.

April 5-June 27

A complainant at a gas station in the 1000 block of N. York Road told police that while doing maintenance on pump #1 and #2, he noticed credit card skimmers had been placed on both pumps sometime between the above dates. The skimmers were removed by officers for processing.

June 26

• A victim at a store in the 600 block of N. York told police at around 11:34 a.m. that an unknown suspect described as a white male wearing, a black T-shirt, blue jeans, a red hooded sweatshirt, and white shoes, attempted to leave the store without paying for numerous items. When approached by a store employee, he dropped the basket of items and fled in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee. Further investigation is pending.

• Police said officers responded for a retail theft just occurred at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 12:18 a.m. The victim reports the juvenile suspects took an unknown amount of alcohol and left without paying. They fled in a silver/gold SUV prior to arrival. The vehicle was later located by Oak Brook Terrace officers. The vehicle was stopped and all were taken into custody. Numerous bottles of alcohol were recovered. The suspects were cited with curfew and retail theft. All were released to parents.

May 15-June 26

A victim told police that between the above dates, he paid a suspect half of an estimate for work to be done on his residence. The check was cashed but the suspect has not performed the work. Numerous attempts to contact the suspect have failed.

June 25

• A victim in the 900 block of N. York told police at around 5:26 p.m. that he was selling his iPhone on Let Go and agreed to meet the purchaser at the above address. The suspect handed the victim what appeared to be cash, but when the victim determined it was not real money, the suspect fled in a black car North bound York Road.

• A complainant at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 told police at around 7:53 p.m. that a suspect described as a white female wearing a pink kimono concealed cosmetics and left the store without paying for the items. The suspect was last seen traveling southbound on Route 83.

June 23

A victim at a cigarette store in the 500 block of N. York told police that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect(s) smashed out the front store window and removed a quantity of cigarette cartons from the store. Eighty-two (82) cartons of cigarettes, a wooden humidor, and an unknown amount of lottery tickets are reported to have been stolen.

June 22-June 23

Two victims in the 100 block of N. Glenview told police that sometime overnight their unlocked vehicles were entered by an unknown suspect(s). In one incident, the suspect(s) took loose change from the center console and moved papers from the glove box. In the second incident, the suspect(s) entered two vehicles and removed loose change. It’s unknown if anything was taken from a third vehicle because the owner is out of town.

June 22

• A victim told police at 8:25 p.m. that while at the City Centre, he set his backpack down on a bench and walked away. When he returned he noticed his backpack was no longer on the bench. The case is pending investigation.

• A victim told police at around 10:41 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) took his locked scooter from the bike rack at East End Pool.
