Elmhurst Fire Department responds to fire on the 200 Block of East May

Elmhurst Fire Department responded for the structure fire at 281 E. May Street on July 4 at 3:45 a.m.

A neighbor notified the Fire Department when she heard a boom, saw an orange
glow and called 911. The Elmhurst Police Department arrived on scene and
evacuated homes at 281 and 285 E May as the Fire Department was arriving on
scene. Engine 2 arrived on scene and reported a fully involved detached garage
fire with exposures to adjacent structures. The fire was extinguished and the
exposures protected 4:15 a.m.

The garage and contents were a total loss at 281 E May with damage to the
exterior of the home and to adjacent 285 E May.
Elmhurst Fire was assisted by Hillside, Northlake, Villa Park, and the York Center
Fire Departments.
