York softball team wins four games

Dukes sweep doubleheader from Willowbrook.

The York softball team won four games during a recent five-game stretch.

The Dukes started that run with a West Suburban Conference crossover sweep of Willowbrook.

In a 19-9 win over the Warriors, York led 13-0 after two innings, thanks to an eight-run first-inning explosion. The Dukes had 18 hits. The two teams combined to make 14 errors.

Katherine Karnatz went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Jane Moran was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Mia Tran went 2-for-5 with a run scored and four RBI. Kyra Kroll had two RBI. Izzy Smith went 2-for-5 with four runs scored. Madison Collins had a hit and two RBI. Andrea Meagher had two hits and a run scored, while Sydney Fuglsang went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Jojo Moyer was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Smith, Meagher, Karnatz, Tran and Moran each had a double. Fuglsang tripled and Collins homered. York also stole five bases.

Lauren Wojcik was the winning pitcher. She went three innings and allowed no hits and struck out six. Meagher pitched the final three innings and was charged with nine runs, though none of them were earned. She struck out four.

In a 10-1 win over Willowbrook, York had eight hits and led 6-1 after the first inning. Moran was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Tran was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Smith was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Collins was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Fuglsang was 1-for-1 with a run scored, an RBI and two walks. Moyer had a hit and two RBI, while Wojcik also had a hit.

Smith, Collins and Fuglsang doubled. Collins tripled and Moyer homered. Tran stole two bases.

Derkowski was the winning pitcher. She struck out five and allowed three hits.

York then won 14-4 against Proviso West in a WSC Silver game. The Dukes had 16 hits and led 9-1 after the second inning.

Derkowski went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Fuglsang had a hit and two runs scored. Wojcik had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Collins had a hit and an RBI. Moyer had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Kroll went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Meagher went 2-for-4 with three run scored. Moran went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Tran had a hit, a run scored and an RBI, while Smith had two hits and two RBI.

Kroll doubled and hit two home runs in the game. Meagher, Wojcik, Tran and Moran each had a double, while Fuglsang tripled.

Meagher was the winning pitcher. She went six innings and struck out seven.

York then dropped a 12-0 decision to Oak Park-River Forest in WSC Silver play. The Dukes were limited to two hits, one each from Karnatz and Smith. Wojcik took the loss.

York finished out the span with an 8-3 WSC Silver win against Lyons Township.

The Dukes had 10 hits and erased an early 1-0 deficit with three runs in the third and three more in the fourth inning.

Karnatz scored two runs. Moran had two hits and three runs scored. Kroll had two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Tran had one RBI. Collins had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Smith went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Meagher had two hits and a run scored. Smith and Collins each had a double.

Derkowski was the winning pitcher. She went seven innings and scattered seven hits, while striking out five.

York was 13-8 overall after the Lyons win and 4-4 in WSC Silver play.
