The York softball team moved its record to 9-7 overall with a recent 12-2 West Suburban Conference Silver Division win against Glenbard West.

The win also put York at 2-3 in WSC Silver play.

Through the team’s first 15 games, Kyra Kroll was leading the way with a .556 batting average to go with a .933 slugging percentage and a .630 on-base percentage. Izzy Smith was hitting .440 with a .700 slugging percentage and a .509 on-base percentage. Katherine Karnatz was at .417 with a .667 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.

“We’ve had a lot of ladies contributing to the team and standing out,” said York coach Elizabeth Munn.

Munn said the team has been working on making adjustments to the better pitching that will be forthcoming on the schedule. “Our offense has been doing better with making adjustments to the better pitchers. This is something we continue to work on,” she said. “The team is very young this year and learning, so we’re making strides every day in learning the new game and making adjustments needed to win games.

Munn also sees progress on the defensive end. “Our defense is shaping up and we continue to work on defensive plays and situations along with our throwing,” she said.

York has been aided of late by the pitching of Julia Derkowski and Lauren Wojcik. “Julia and Lauren have been really impressive with their throwing,” said Munn. “Both are young, but with their second year on varsity now, that experience has seemed to really help them out.”

The Dukes are looking forward to tackling the remainder of their regular-season schedule. “We have made some adjustments and learned from games,” said Munn. “We will continue to improve. We have a very tough schedule ahead of us. We’re going to continue to strive to get a little better each day.”

Kroll was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Madison Collins had a hit, a run scored and two RBI. Andrea Meagher had a hit and two RBI. Derkowski had a hit and an RBI.
