York baseball team defeats Willowbrook and Hinsdale Central

Dukes face Lyons Township this week to wrap up conference play

The York baseball team scored recent wins against Willowbrook and Hinsdale Central.

In a recent 9-6 West Suburban Conference crossover win against Willowbrook, the Dukes erased a 5-2 deficit late by scoring seven runs over the final two innings.

York had 10 hits. Mike Pastuovic had a hit and a run scored. Mike Bernal went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Nick Lee had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Joey Yaeger had a hit, two runs scored and two walks. Joey Chiappetta had a hit and an RBI. Elliott Achepohl had two RBI. Andrew Deardurff had a hit a run scored and an RBI. Ryan Ross had a hit and a run scored, while Ian Steinorth had a hit. Bernal and Lee doubled. York stole six bases in the game with Lee leading the way with two.

Tamaine Durr was the winning pitcher in relief. He went two innings. Chiappetta pitched the seventh inning to pick up the save. Zach Pflum started and struck out four over four innings.

York then opened a three-game WSC Silver Division series with Hinsdale Central. York lost the opener 9-3. Hinsdale Central blew the game open with six runs in the fourth inning.

Bernal, Yaeger and Mike Achepohl each had a hit. Yaeger had two RBI, while Mike Achepohl had one RBI. Scott Tucker took the loss. He struck out two in four innings.

York won the middle game 10-3 in Hinsdale. York led 6-3 before scoring four runs in the sixth inning. The Dukes had nine hits.

Pastuovic had a hit, a run scored and an RBI, as did Lee. Chiappetta had two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Yaeger had a hit and two runs scored. Steinorth had a hit and a run scored. Ross went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Austin Gelsomino had two runs scored, a hit and an RBI. Chiappetta and Ross each doubled.

Jake Hadawi was the winner. He went five innings and allowed one earned run on four hits, while striking out three. Henry Judge pitched the final two innings and allowed no hits and struck out two.

York dropped the finale 10-9 in extra innings when host Hinsdale Central scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win it. York led 5-2 at one point.

Deardurff had two hits and two RBI. Lee had two hits and two runs scored. Bernal had two hits. Kevin Lipkin scored two runs. Chiappetta had a run scored, as did Yaeger. Steinorth had two runs scored, a hit and two RBI. Ross had a hit and a run scored, while Gelsomino had two hits and an RBI. York had 10 hits. Steinorth hit a double. The Dukes stole five bases with Deardurff having two of those.

Austin Gelsomino took the loss in relief. Charlie Pakenas and Pflum also pitched.

York was 18-7 overall after the Hinsdale series and was 9-6 in WSC Silver play with only a series remaining this week against Lyons Township as far as conference games go.
