History of the incident…

On Halloween night, October 31, 2016, state police responded to the report of a shooting on the expressway near North Avenue in Elmhurst at about 8:30 p.m. The victim told officers a vehicle had pulled up next to him while he was driving home and a man in the passenger seat rolled down the window and fired two rounds at the victim reportedly from a semiautomatic handgun.

An investigation showed that one bullet had struck the driver’s side door. The second bullet was not found. The victim said he followed the suspect for a short period before pulling over and calling 911.

Working with the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, state police were able to identify Sewell as a suspect.

On April 18, a warrant for his arrest was issued through the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
