Jerry Cooney, 81

Bernard Jerome “Jerry” Cooney, of Elmhurst, passed away recently at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Margaret nee Heiser for 57 years; loving father of Michael (Lynn), Karen and John (Lisa); grandfather of Brenna, Marcus, Joshua, Caroline and Sophia; brother of James E. (Sandra); loved uncle of many nieces and nephews. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry, a loving husband, a devoted father and a friend to all. Born on August 27, 1935, in Oak Park, Jerry spent his entire life in the Chicago area. He loved people and enjoyed making them smile. He had a great love for animals and never missed an opportunity to care for them.  Most important to Jerry was his family. Following a successful career as a salesman in the paper industry, Jerry enjoyed serving as a crossing guard for Visitation school children which he did proudly for 10 years. Rumor has it that people altered their route just to see Jerry, at the corner of Madison and Kearsage, because he made their day. He made our day every day for 81 years. He will truly be missed by his family and friends. Memorial gathering at Visitation Church, 779 S. York St., Elmhurst from 9:45 A.M. until time of Memorial Mass at 10:45 A.M. Friday, May 19, 2017.
