Independent joins other publications in search of local veterans’ photos

The Illinois Press Association recently sent this newspaper information on The Wall of Faces, coordinated by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. We were surprised to read that there are photos missing for more than 500 Illinois servicemen and women who had either killed in action or went missing during the Vietnam War.

The following are the names of some of the still-missing photos.

• Steve J. Churchill (Elmhurst)

• Roger A. Fessenden (Hanover Park)

• Samuel N. Hart (Villa Park)

• Richard D. Krupa (Elmhurst)

• Stanley D. Montgomery (St. Charles)

• Roger L. Pierce (Glen Ellyn)

• Michael W. Prengel (Bensenville)

• Allan D. Timmerman (Downers Grove)

Perhaps you have a photo of one of these men or know someone that does. If you do, you will help honor and remember the history and legacy of the fallen. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund indicates there are more than 58,000 names on the wall. Each one of them has a story that should be kept alive.

As of May 16, 2017, 21 states have found a photo for all their Vietnam fallen.
