IC Catholic Prep’s Rowell second in the state in long jump

IC Catholic Prep senior Jordan Rowell wrapped up his high-school sports career by taking second in the long jump at the recent Class 1A state finals meet in Charleston.

Rowell, a Northern Illinois University football recruit, finished second with a leap of 22-9 1/4. The winning jump in Class 1A was 23-5.

Rowell also took eighth in his preliminary heat of the 100 with a time of 13.66. He did not run the 400 at state.

Rowell was part of the 400 relay team that took second in its preliminary heat with a time of 44.18 and did not advance to the finals. Other team members included Luke Ricobene, Lazerick Eatman and Luke Calles.

IC Catholic Prep’s 800 relay team was fifth in its preliminary heat with a time of 1:34.06 and did not advance to the finals. That group included Ricobene, Eatman, Khalil Saunders and Calles.

Dan McCann was eighth in his preliminary heat of the shot put with a throw of 37-6.

York boys track

York’s Charlie Kern Jr. finished third in the Class 3A 800 run state finals. Kern won his preliminary heat with a time of 1:55.44 and then ran 1:54.26 in the state finals to place third. Kern Jr. did not run the 1,600 at state.

Cal Widener took 10th in the state in the shot put with a throw of 55-1 3/4, the same mark he threw in the preliminary flight to advance to finals.

Jackson Bode was 15th in the state in the 3,200 with a time of 9:37.93.

Obi Nnam tied for 12th in his preliminary flight of the high jump with a leap of 6-1.

Jonathan Tanner took fourth in his preliminary heat of the 200 with a time of 23.04 and did not advance.

York’s 800 relay team of Brendan Chaltin, Tanner, freshman Jimmy Hoffman and senior AJ Mimlitz took sixth in its preliminary heat with a time of 1:31.05 and did not advance.

Timothy Christian boys track

Timothy Christian’s Xavier Ross competed in three events at the recent Class 1A state finals meet in Charleston.

Ross was second in his preliminary heat of the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.76, but did not advance to finals. He was fifth in his prelim heat of the 200 with a time of 23.14 and was seventh in his prelim heat of the 300 IM hurdles with a time of 44.85. Ross did not advance to the finals in any of his three events.
