Saturday, June 3 – Dancing Under the Stars at the Addison deck

Beginning at 7 p.m., Dancing Under the Stars featuring Elmhurst College Jazz Band will be held on the roof level of the Addison parking garage, 135 N. Addison Ave. Bring a picnic basket and a chair or blanket to enjoy the rooftop views and the music. Free and open to the public. • The Elmhurst Lions Club is showing its gratitude for the community’s support on Saturday, June 3, by hosting a free picnic at the Hub Tent in Berens Park between 11 a.m. And 2 p.m.

• “Stone Hunt,” for ages 5 years to adult starting at 2 p.m. at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave., allows children and adults to search for gems and minerals among more common rocks. Learn the difference between rocks and minerals and how to distinguish between them. Each rock or mineral found is identified and can be taken home. Info: lizzadromuseum.org or call 630-833-1616.

Sunday, June 4

• Beginning at 8:30 a.m., the 5th Annual Strides Against MG benefit walk and kids’ dash will be held at Berens Park, 493 Oaklawn Ave. Hosted by Conquer Myasthenia Gravis, the family-friendly walk will raise MG awareness and raise funds to serve MG patients and fund research. • Fun meets fundraising at Elmhurst College where there will be a dinner followed by by Jeffrey Deutsch and the Elmhurst All-Stars performing Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits to benefit DuPage PADS and its capital campaign for the site at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church. Guests may choose from dinner, concert and dessert for $80 per person or the concert and dessert only for $40 per person. Dinner is at. 5 p.m. in the Frick Center; the concert is at 7 p.m. at Mill Theater. Dessert and a silent auction will follow the concert. The Elmhurst Garden Club will hold their monthly membership luncheon at the Wilder Mansion. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by the regular meeting at 12 noon. The program, “Smart Phone/Garden Photography” by Staci Prince will begin at 1 p.m. Info: elmhurstgardenclub.org

Tuesday, June 6

The Crestview Garden Club will feature a Crate Tea Garden Demo by Sandy Perakis from Platt Hill Nursery in Bloomingdale. Learn how to make your own tea garden using herbs and flowers. Enjoy this very “aromatic” class. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Community Bank of Elmhurst, 330 W. Butterfield Road at Spring Road, second floor. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., York High School alumni are returning to the stage for a one-night-only performance of the musical Godspell, in York’s Baker Auditorium. Tickets can be purchased starting May 15, at ticketpeak.com/yorkdrama.

Saturday, June 10

From 12 noon-4 p.m., the band Summit will perform a live benefit concert at Silverado Grill at 447 Spring Road to benefit the Mary Queen of Heaven Medical Center in Uganda. From 3-6 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum presents a Disco Explosion Community Event, as it celebrates everything ‘70s with a little disco and a little rock ‘n’ roll. Grammy-winning rocker and songwriter Jim Peterik (Survivor, Ides of March) will perform some of his hits with School of Rock, and The Shagadelics band represents disco with funky gems from the era. Legendary White Sox organist Nancy Faust will perform ball park favorites, and Hoekstra and Natkin will be on hand to sign books. Info: elmhursthistory.org or 630-833-1457.

Tuesday, July 4

The 13th annual Elmhurst Running Club 4 on the 4th race will step off at 7:15 a.m., starting and finishing at Elmhurst College. A 1-kilometer kids (12-and-under) race follows at 8:25 a.m. The 4 on the 4th’s beneficiary is the Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation. This year, the race will honor Darryl May, a club and race founder who passed away earlier this year. The race is presented by InMotion Foot & Ankle Center in Elmhurst.

Ongoing programs:

• From June 9-Oct. 8, the Elmhurst History Museum hosts Disco Demolition: The Night Disco Died. It started as an off-beat baseball promotion called “Teen Night” designed to sell tickets at Comiskey Park and gain listeners for a fledgling FM radio station—until it devolved into one of the most infamous events in Chicago’s rich baseball history. Disco Demolition Night exploded on July 12, 1979 in the middle of a White Sox doubleheader and it remains one of the city’s most controversial sports history moments. Media sponsor: WLUP-FM. • Check out the latest enhancements at the interactive exhibit, By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst, at the Elmhurst History Museum. New components include the story of the Glos Mansion and family, a feature on Elmhurst veterans and veteran organizations, and families will love the new “I-Spy” flip books to experience the exhibit. A new “History Highlight” section showcases a changing array of special objects and photos from the museum’s collection, and currently features objects from Chicago’s World’s Fairs. • The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m.  New York steaks are available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
