Timothy Christian baseball team fares well in South Carolina

Trojans won four of first five games to kick off season.

The Timothy Christian baseball team’s trip to South Carolina for spring break was a successful one.

The Trojans went 3-1 during a four-game stretch at the Cal Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Timothy started the trip with a 7-3 win over Friends’ Central. The Trojans pounded out 12 hits in the game.

Noah Marerra had a hit, two runs scored and an RBI. Jonny Strube had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Jimmy Allen had four hits, a run scored and three RBI. Nick Huisman had two hits a run scored and an RBI. Joey Davidson had two hits and a run scored.

Allen had two triples in the game, while Marerra had one triple.

Allen threw the first three innings and allowed no earned runs and struck out four. Huisman pitched the final four innings and allowed three hits while striking out four as well. Allen and Huisman walked no batters.

Timothy then recorded an 8-2 win over Beachwood. The Trojans had nine hits and led 6-1 after four innings.

Marerra had two hits. Strube had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Allen had two runs scored. Josh Anderson had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Huisman had two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Davidson had a hit and two runs scored. Marerra and Strube each had a double. Allen walked three times. Allen and Anderson each stole two bases. Timothy stole five bases.

Brian Schiff went the first five innings to earn the win. He struck out six. Shaun VanTholen pitched the final two innings and struck out two.

Timothy then dropped a 4-1 decision to Elkhorn out of Wisconsin. The Trojans were limited to only three hits.

Marerra, Allen and Huisman each had a hit. Marerra drove in Timothy’s only run of the game. Allen had a stolen base.

Sophomore Trent Marerra started the game and went the first five innings. He struck out three. Strube pitched the final inning.

Timothy capped the trip with an 11-7 win over Lake Center Christian. Timothy scored three runs in the first inning and four in the fourth to take an 8-3 lead.

The Trojans had 10 hits. Connor Gwaltney had a run scored and an RBI. Noah Marerra had two hits and two runs scored. Strube had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Allen had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Anderson had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Schiff had two runs scored and a hit. Brady Klooster had a run scored and an RBI. Jakob Loerop had two hits and an RBI.

Noah Marerra, Allen and Loerop each had a double, while Strube, Anderson and Schiff each had a triple. Gwaltney had a sacrifice fly and Davidson drew three walks.

Anderson pitched the first three innings, while VanTholen pitched the final four to pick up the win. He struck out two and allowed four hits.

Timothy returns home with a 4-1 overall record. The Trojans have games scheduled this week with Walther Christian (two-game Metro Suburban Conference Red Division series), Fenton and Lisle. Timothy heads to Fenton on Thursday and hosts Lisle at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
