IC Catholic Prep baseball team wins pair of games

Knights’ girls soccer team victorious against Montini.

The IC Catholic Prep baseball team returned from its spring trip to South Carolina and fared well in a recent three-game stretch.

The Knights opened last week with a 9-3 Metro Suburban Conference Blue Division win against Fenton.

IC Catholic Prep overcame a 2-1 early deficit by scoring three runs in the third inning and later blew the game open with four runs in the sixth inning. The Knights had 10 hits in the game.

Trey Morris went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Austin Reed went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. John Hoffman was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Matt Sutton had a hit and an RBI, as did Brendan Russ and Joey Salvi. Ryan Malek walked twice and scored a run. CJ West walked, scored a run and had an RBI, while Griffen Eichhorn had a hit and an RBI. Sutton doubled in the game and Morris had a triple and a sacrifice fly. Reed stole two bases, while Hoffman and Morris each stole one.

Russ was the winning pitcher. He went six innings and allowed only five hits and one earned run while striking out seven and walking one. Hoffman pitched the seventh inning and struck out two.

IC Catholic Prep followed that up with an 11-1 MSC crossover win against St. Edward. The Knights used a six-run fifth inning that helped to enact the 10-run rule in the sixth. IC Catholic Prep had 11 hits.

Sutton went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Morris had a hit and two RBI. Reed went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Russ had a hit and an RBI. Hoffman went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. West had a hit and an RBI. Michael Hoffman scored a run and had an RBI. Amari Reed had a hit and scored two runs. Seven Knights players had at least one hit.

Sutton doubled in the contest and Hoffman had a triple. The Knights continued to be aggressive on the base paths with eight stolen bases. Hoffman and Austin Reed each had two steals.

West was the winning pitcher. He allowed three hits and fanned four over five innings. Alfonso Cepeda pitched the sixth inning and had a rare four-strikeout inning.

IC Catholic Prep then dropped a 6-5 MSC Blue game to Fenton. The Knights led 4-1 after four innings, but Fenton scored five runs in the fifth to take the lead.

Morris went 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Austin Reed went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Salvi had a hit and two RBI. Austin Reed doubled and Morris hit a triple. The Knights stole three more bases.

Austin Reed, Andrew Falduto and Hoffman pitched in the game.

IC Catholic Prep girls soccer

The IC Catholic Prep girls soccer team recorded a 3-0 win over Montini. Olivia Hurt scored two goals, while Tessa Langan had one goal.

Grace Fuller had two assists. Gabby Smola and Rochelle Spizzirri combined in goal for their third shutout of the year.
