Educator input sought for Performing Arts Center

ECPA to meet with local teachers, administrators

After extensive planning, the Elmhurst Centre for Performing Arts (ECPA) initiative was presented to the community about a year ago with the goal of building a center for music, theater, dance and comedy anchored in Elmhurst. Momentum continues to build, thanks to a visionary board, a team of dedicated volunteers and enthusiastic community support.

Having completed the initial phase of the project, including development of a strategic plan and initial community-wide fund-raisers, the board and volunteer team have embarked on plans for more detailed feasibility studies and community outreach.

“We have entered into a very exciting phase of this project,” said Laura Michaud, ECPA board member. “After two years of planning, and extensive dialogue with community leaders and residents, we have refined the vision for ECPA and can now shift to how we make this happen.”

That shift includes more targeted conversation with community organizations and audiences about how those groups envision utilization of programs and events at a local state-of-the-art performing arts facility. The first of these conversations will be held on Wednesday, April 12 at 4:00 p.m. at the Elmhurst library where the ECPA team will have an open meeting for Elmhurst area school educators and administrators.

“Those involved in education for our youth will have great ideas about how ECPA, both its space and its programs, can support curriculum,” said Becky Marianetti, York High School Fine Arts Teacher and ECPA Board Member. “As educators, we know the benefit of leveraging high quality resources for our students. A local performing arts center will offer creative opportunities for all teachers, not just fine arts teachers, to inspire our students in ways we can’t yet even imagine.”

The April 12 meeting will include a short informational update on the Elmhurst Centre for Performing Arts project and a forum for discussion about how the facility can be used to support teachers and students. No registration is required. Email [email protected] with questions.
