UPDATE: Man dies, another injured after trimming trees in Addison

On Tuesday afternoon, March 28, the Independent learned that two men had been injured at about 11 a.m. while trimming trees near Lake St. & Villa Ave. in Addison.

The men were working in the backyard of a private residence “very close to power lines,” police said, and reportedly struck a line, which electrocuted both of them. ComEd was notified and immediately cut power to the area.

The Addison Police and Fire Departments were on the scene, where life-saving measures were administered to the person who fell from the ladder, later identified as Jose Fulgencio-Hueramo, 51, of Melrose Park. Fulgencio-Hueramo was taken to the Glen Oaks Hospital Emergency Room, where he was pronounced dead at 11:48 a.m. The DuPage County Coroner has reported that an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, Mar. 29

The other man was stuck in the tree until emergency help arrived to rescue him. The Addison Fire Department with assistance from the Lombard Fire Department, extracted the man, he was immediately air-lifted to a local level 1 trauma center in serious condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
