Police report incident of possible child luring

Public asked to be aware, report similar circumstances if any

On Monday, February 20, 2017 at approximately 2:17 p.m., Elmhurst police responded to the 500 block of West Lorraine Ave for a report of a suspicious person/vehicle possible child luring.

A juvenile reported that he was approached by a male/white, about 50 years of age, with long brown hair driving a red van with stickers on it. The subject asked the juvenile if he had seen his brown dog. The juvenile stated no. According to the juvenile, the subject asked him if he would help him find his dog. The juvenile stated no and ran to his house.

Police officers searching the residential area were able to locate the red van and owner. Officers spoke to the owner who matched the description. The owner related he was driving around the neighborhood looking for his partially-blind brown dog and was asking residents in the area if they had seen the dog, which he thought had gotten loose. He denied offering anyone a ride in his vehicle. The dog was subsequently located in the owner’s backyard.

Elmhurst police remind residents to immediately report any suspicious activity to police by calling 9-1-1.
