IC Catholic Prep softball team starts season 2-1

Hurt scores hat trick to help Knights’ girls soccer team win at Windy City invite.

The IC Catholic Prep softball team started its season with a 2-1 mark through its first three games.

The Knights opened the 2017 campaign with a 7-6 setback to Ridgewood. Ridgewood scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh after IC Catholic Prep had come back to score five runs in the sixth inning to tie the game. The Knights had 10 hits in the contest.

That five-run sixth inning was highlighted by a Georgia Mahnke single, an Emma Lytton double and a Kayla Faber-Cournane single.

Faber-Cournane took the loss. She struck out four.

Kayla Cervantes, Josie Lytton and Mahnke each had two hits in the game.

The Knights then scored a 12-0 non-conference win over Elgin Westminster Christian. IC Catholic Prep scored four runs in the third inning and eight in the fifth inning to enact the 10-run rule.

Faber-Cournane was the winning pitcher. She allowed one hit in five innings and struck out three. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

In the eight-run fifth inning, Josie Lytton had a single and Tea Carpanzano had a double.

In an 18-2 win over Proviso West in a five-inning non-conference game, the Knights scored six runs in the first and fourth innings en route to the win. IC Catholic Prep had 14 hits.

Kaitlyn Falduto had two hits, including a double, and drove in four runs. Her double in the first inning cleared the bases.

Falduto also was the winning pitcher. She struck out three in five innings of work.

Emma Lytton, Falduto, Dani Murrillo Alyssa Borges and Alessandra Eccardt had multiple-hit days for the Knights.

IC Catholic Prep girls soccer

The IC Catholic Prep girls soccer team scored a recent 5-1 win over Willowbrook in the Windy City Invitational tournament. Olivia Hurt scored three goals to notch the hat trick for the Knights. Tessa Langan and Grace Fuller each had one hit.

The Knights also downed Chicago Christian by a score of 4-0. Kaitlyn Grady had two goals, while Langan and Bella Leslie each scored a goal. Grady and Langan each had an assist.

Gabby Smola and Rochelle Spizzirri split time in goal and combined to record a shutout.

In a 5-2 win over Reavis in the Windy City Invitational, Langan had two goals, while Hurt, Tess Reardon and Grace Fuller each had one goal. Fuller and Hurt had one assist each.

The Knights moved to 4-1 overall with the three wins last week.
