Fenton’s Sanchez advances to state 3-point shooting finals

Bison boys track team competes in pair of indoor meets.

Fenton’s Javier Sanchez is headed to state.

Sanchez was one of the top four individuals at the recent Class 4A Proviso East sectional portion of the state 3-point shooting contest.

Sanchez will now compete in this week’s Class 4A state 3-point shooting finals at Carver Arena in Peoria.

Fenton boys track

The Fenton boys track team has competed in a pair of indoor meets so far this season.

Fenton hosted its annual Jim Spivey Classic that featured six teams.

DJ Kelly took third in the 220-yard race with a time of 26.0. Michael Lieggi was fifth in the 880 with a time of 2:18.0.

Cristian Sanchez took third in the two-mile race with a time of 10:57.1. Adrian Castillo was sixth in the 50 hurdles with a time of 9.8.

Fenton’s 4-by-880 relay team placed second with a time of 9:40.1. James Deckert was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 37-4.

Kelly also was sixth in the long jump at 16-11.

Fenton also competed in the Joe Scarpino invitational at Buffalo Grove High School.

Kelly ran 7.4 in the 55 dash A finals. Amari Baldwin ran 7.3 in the B finals, while Deckert ran 7.3 in the C finals.

Kevin Gonzalez was seventh in the 220 A finals at 25.7. Nick Herringer ran 28.7 in the B finals, while Eric Ayala ran 28.5 in the C finals.

Alex Castillo ran 1:05.4 in the 440 A finals. Herringer was at 1:12.2 in the B finals of the 440.

Lieggi was ninth in the A finals at 2:17.5 in the 880. Oscar Varela ran 2:40.6 in the B finals and Sam Elizondo ran 2:25.6 in the C finals.

Sanchez was eighth in the mile A finals at 5:15.6. Jeremy Lodewyck ran 5:35.0 in the B finals while Chris Zavala ran 5:37.0 in the C finals.

Lodewyck ran 11:52.6 in the 2-mile A finals. Randy Almarales ran 11:21.3 in the B finals while Nathan Exconde ran 12:01.0 in the C finals.

Fenton ran 1:13.6 in the 400 relay finals and clocked in at 4:22.1 in the 1,600 relay finals. Fenton also ran 9:44.7 in the 3,200 relay finals.

Deckert threw 38-10 and finished ninth in the shot put 12-pound A finals. Miguel Garcia threw 32-2 in the 12-pound B finals. Name Fagen threw 30-4 in the 12-pound C finals.

Deckert went 4-10 in the high jump B finals. Kelly posted a 14-11 mark in the long jump A finals. Baldwin went 14-11 in the long jump B finals. Ayala went 13-3 1/2 in the long jump C finals.

Castillo posted a 31-6 mark in the triple jump A finals. Cedar Bermudez went 26-11 1/2 in the triple jump B finals, while Herringer’s mark was 27-3 in the triple jump C finals.
