Elmhurst Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Disorderly conduct, trespass notice

Feb. 22

A victim in the 400 block of W. Vallette told police at around 5:20 p.m. that a suspect was threatening him due to an ongoing dispute from a previous day. The suspect was contacted and denied making any threats. Both were advised to have no further contact with each other.

Domestic incident, domestic battery

Feb. 28

A victim in the 100 block of E. Grand told police at around 2:38 p.m. that she woke her husband because of his snoring, and he turned and struck her in the chest. The victim stated that three weeks ago, her husband pushed her from behind, causing her to fall. The suspect related the victim was acting strangely due to her medication and he grabbed her jacket in an attempt to stop her from leaving the house and she faked a fall to the ground. Due to conflicting stories, no arrests were made.

Feb. 26

Police said a victim and suspect ensued in an argument in the 500 block of Comstock at around 2:14 p.m. The victim attempted to call 911 when the suspect grabbed her cell phone and destroyed it, according to police. Their daughter then attempted to call 911 and they struggled. The suspect left the scene. An investigation is pending.

Feb. 25

Police said that subsequent to a call for domestic battery in the 500 block of W. Grand Ave. at around 11:57 a.m., the suspect—a 29-year-old man from Chicago—believed that the victim had taken an unspecified amount of cash from him. The suspect then kicked the victim in the leg, according to police.

Feb. 23

A victim in the 500 block of N. Willow told police at around 6:45 p.m. that his son has been talking to himself for the past month. On the above date, he was drinking all day and reportedly became violent, head-butting the victim. The victim called 911 and the suspect allegedly took the phone and threw it out the back door. The suspect, a 36-year-old Elmhurst man, was charged with domestic battery and unlawful interference with the reporting of a domestic violence incident.

Feb. 27

Matthew Russell, 47, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, improper lane usage and no rear registration plate light near St. Charles and Cottage Hill at around 12:20 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop, the reporting officer smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Russell, the driver.

Feb. 26

Francisco Alvarez, 37, of Berwyn, was charged with DUI subsequent to the report of a suspicious auto in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave. at around 2:39 a.m.

Kent Bullock, 38, of Chicago, was charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol, DUI, improper lane usage, disobeying a traffic control device and failure to signal subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 at North at around 3:17 a.m.

David Hosick, 57, of River Grove, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage near North and Highview at around 11:38 p.m.

Feb. 25

Robert Herzog, 39, of Villa Park, was charged with DUI and disorderly conduct in the 100 block of S. York at around 2:45 a.m. Police said that while reporting officers were on patrol, the officers located the driver, Herzog, who was asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle.

Patrick Jablonski, 21, of Wood Dale, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and I-290 at around 12:48 a.m.

Edward Kopsel, 70, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI subsequent to a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of S. Route 83 at around 1:13 a.m.

Police said officers responded to a rollover accident near Roosevelt and Euclid at around 8:07 p.m. with the driver pinned inside. Upon arrival, an officer smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. The driver was extricated from the vehicle. Charges are pending for aggravated DUI, improper lane usage, driving while license suspended, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no insurance.

Harassment, threats

Feb. 21-Feb. 23

A victim told police at around 10:18 a.m. that a suspect called the main number of a bank in order to contact the victim. The suspect has been calling the bank consistently and has been told in the past not to contact the victim. An investigation is pending.

Possession of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, controlled substance

March 1

Lorenzo Bassette, 32, of Addison, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis at a hotel in the 400 block of W. Lake St. at around 10:22 a.m. Police said officers observed Bassette seated in a parked car in the hotel parking lot. According to police, upon making contact with Bassette, officers detected an odor of burnt cannabis, and Bassette admitted to possessing cannabis and surrendered an amount of cannabis to the officer.

Rylan D. Raspatello, 18, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia in the 300 block of W. Butterfield at 8:58 p.m. Police said that subsequent to making contact with a suspicious vehicle which was observed behind a closed business, passenger Raspatello was found to be in possession of a metal grinder containing cannabis residue.

Feb. 27

Christian Carlsen, 21, and Allison Hlavacek, 19, both of Elmhurst, were issued citations near York and Grantley at around 12:18 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop, Carlsen and Hlavacek were found to have been smoking cannabis inside the vehicle. The driver, Hlavacek, admitted to smoking cannabis prior to being stopped, according to police. Carlsen was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, while Hlavacek was cited for speeding.

Vladimir Furman, 53, of Vernon Hills, was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia near Grand and Oaklawn at around 3:17 p.m. Police said while on patrol, officers observed Furman smoking a cannabis “one hitter” pipe, and the smell of burnt cannabis was also coming from the vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated, and Furman was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Officers responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of Lemont Road at around 6:15 a.m. Officers observed two people sleeping in the vehicle. Items of drug paraphernalia were observed and the vehicle smelled like burnt cannabis, according to police. The suspect was a missing/endangered juvenile out of Arlington Heights. The juvenile was cited for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and a curfew violation. The juvenile was released to a guardian on the scene after receiving an evaluation from medics. The juvenile was removed from LEADS.

Feb. 26

Alexander J. Love, 21, of Villa Park, was charged with possession of cannabis and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near Berteau and North at around 11:41 a.m. Police said a reporting officer smelled a strong odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. According to police, Love admitted to having smoked cannabis earlier in the day and provided the reporting officer with a small amount of cannabis.

Feb. 24

Jaquan Lewis, 22, of Bellwood, and Kymiya Boyce, 21, of Chicago, were issued citations by police near Roosevelt and York at around 11:17 p.m. Boyce was cited for possession of cannabis while Lewis was cited for possession of cannabis, no insurance and no seat belt.

Feb. 23

Michael D. Gosa, 22, of Bellwood, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near Palmer and Marion at around 5:16 p.m.

Gustavo Hernandez, 22, of Cicero, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and disobeying a traffic control light subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at around 1:07 a.m.

Suspicious circumstances

Feb. 24

A victim in the 900 block of Hillcrest told police at around 10:35 p.m. that he was reportedly being followed by a silver Chevrolet sedan. The victim drove to the intersection of York and Vallette where a silver Buick sedan and the Chevrolet sedan blocked his car in the traffic lane. The victim stated that a female approached his vehicle and accused him of putting nails under her tires. The victim then began to drive away from the area, but noticed the Chevrolet was still following him until he reached I-290. The report was done as a matter of record.

Theft/burglary/attempted theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

Feb. 28

Demetrius Orr, 18, of Villa Park, was charged with burglary to a vehicle in the 100 block of Berkley at around 1:59 a.m. Police said officers responded to a complaint of a suspicious person tampering with vehicles, and located a vehicle which had been burglarized, according to police. A suspect was observed riding a bicycle from the area and then fleeing on foot, police said. Officers set up a perimeter and conducted a K-9 search of the area. Orr was located on the CNRR tracks near West Avenue and was taken into custody and transported to the police station, according to police.

Josiah J. Schubring, 34, of Elgin, was charged with retail theft and unlawful possession of a controlled substance in the 600 block of N. York at around 6:03 p.m. Police said officers were dispatched to a coffee shop for a retail theft in-progress. According to police, officers made contact with Schubring who admitted to stealing coffee and a mug. Schubring was transported to the Police Department and during a search, police said a clear plastic bag of suspect heroin fell out of Schubring’s sock.

Feb. 27-Feb. 28

A victim in the 600 block of Mitchell told police at around 7:47 a.m. that an unknown suspect entered two unlocked vehicles which were parked in his driveway overnight sometime between the above dates.

Two incidents of burglary to a vehicle occurred in the 300 block of Eggleston Ave. In the first incident, reported at around 1:33 p.m., a victim told police that during the above time frame, an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicle and moved paperwork from the center console to the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Nothing appeared to be taken. In the second incident, reported at 1:45 p.m., a victim told police that during the above time frame, an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicles and emptied the contents of the center console and glove box onto the front seat. The victim is not sure if any change had been taken.

Feb. 26

A victim in the 300 block of W. Lake St. told police at around 5:01 p.m. that while at an entertainment center, his wallet fell out of his pocket onto one of the bleachers. Upon reviewing surveillance video, a reporting officer observed a suspect reportedly pick up the wallet and place it in her bag. The suspect was identified and related she would bring the wallet to the police department. Police said further investigation revealed two online purchase attempts had been made with one of the victim’s credit cards, which had been inside the stolen wallet. An investigation is pending.

Feb. 24

Jessica Brooks, 19, of Arlington Heights, was charged with possession of a false ID in the 100 block of S. Prospect Ave. at around 8:19 p.m. A reporting officer responded to the Elmhurst College campus security office for a wallet that was found near the chapel. According to police, the wallet contained a Maryland driver’s license with a false name and date of birth. Police said Brooks was contacted, came into the police department for her items and admitted to having a false ID.

Feb. 23

Police said that subsequent to a fraud in progress at a financial institution in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 9:26 a.m., a suspect had attempted to make a substantial withdrawal from a debit account using a fraudulent driver’s license. The transaction was not completed, and the suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the station. He was processed and released without charges. Further investigation is pending.

A complainant—the owner of a restaurant in the 100 block of S.York—told police at around 3:40 p.m. that a suspect has been stealing checks and cashing them. An investigation is pending.

A victim in the 300 block of N. Addison told police at around 3 p.m. that she had left her Illinois driver’s license in a friend’s vehicle about a month ago. On the above date, she received a letter from a hotel in Hoffman Estates stating she had checked into a room on Feb. 18, and upon checkout on Feb. 19, there was significant damage to the room and she would be held liable. The victim relates she did not stay at the hotel and believes her friend may have used her license upon check in. An investigation is pending.

A victim in the 100 block of N. Walnut told police at around 6:40 p.m. than an unknown suspect(s) used his information to open a Target Red Card in Streamwood. The unknown suspect(s) purchased two cell phones for a total cash value of approximately $150.

Jan. 15-Feb. 23

A mother and daughter came to the police station to speak with an officer about the daughter committing retail thefts and driving without a license on numerous occasions over the last month. The mother told police that her daughter drives her friend’s car to a store in the 200 block of S. Route 83 during her school’s lunch break and steals various items, mostly food, according to police. She was arrested for retail theft in November of 2016, but continues to steal, police said. The suspect was not criminally charged on Feb. 23 date because the store did not want to pursue complaints.

Feb. 19

A victim in the 400 block of Argyle told police at around 7:56 p.m. that she received several credit cards in the mail from various stores that she did not apply for. She checked her credit report and discovered several more had been opened in her name. The victim contacted the stores and placed a freeze on her credit. No purchases had been made on the credit cards so there is no dollar loss.

Feb. 22

A victim in the 600 block of S. Linden told police at around 6:12 p.m. that an unknown suspect opened a fraudulent American Express account in his name and transferred cash to a Barclay Card.

Feb. 11-Feb. 16

A victim in the 900 block of N. York told police at around 12:37 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) entered her residence while under construction between the above dates and stole various items.

Warrant service

Feb. 27

Subsequent to a suspicious auto in the 500 block of N. Kenilworth Ave. at around 11:41 p.m., the reporting officer smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and burnt cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. The passengers, both juveniles, admitted to smoking cannabis and consuming alcoholic beverages. Juvenile 2 was also found to possess a valid juvenile warrant for domestic battery. Juvenile 1 was charged with possession of cannabis and underage consumption of alcohol and was released on scene to her father. Juvenile 2 was transported to Kane County Youth Home on an original warrant. The driver was released on scene without charges.

Feb. 24

Police said that during a call for a disabled vehicle near Route 83 and Roosevelt at around 7:24 a.m., Shanise Milner, 22, of Willowbrook, was found to be wanted on a warrant out of DuPage County.
