Elmhurst Police Department awarded grant

The Elmhurst Police Department has once again been awarded a traffic enforcement grant by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The goal of this grant is to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes with additional enforcement of DUI and seatbelt laws.

The next campaign of this grant will begin on Tuesday, March 14,and continue through March 20, 2017. The grant allows extra officers to be on patrol looking for impaired drivers and seatbelt violations. The majority of this extra enforcement will take place during the overnight hours, which is the most dangerous time to be on the roadway.

Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and to always buckle up. If they are planning on drinking during any St. Patrick’s Day activities, they should make alternate driving arrangements. People are also encouraged to contact police if they see a vehicle that appears to be driven by an intoxicated driver.
