Dukes boys swimming team qualifies multiple individuals for state: Hoffmann wrestles at state

The York girls bowling team finished 20th at the recent IHSA girls bowling state finals at Cherry Bowl Lanes near Rockford.

The Dukes finished with a total pinfall of 5,234 and averaged 174.5 pins per game.

Junior Lauren Gould led the Dukes with a 1,133 series and finished 64th on the first day of action. She had high games of 210, 256 and 181 and rolled a 588 series in her last three games.

Senior Jessica Cwik finished with a 1,063 series and took 97th on the first day. She had high games of 199, 191, 181 and 173. Senior Jenny Diamond was 99th on the first day with a 1,057 series. She had high games of 196, 188 and 178.

Junior Lauren Steck tied for 110th on the first day with a 1,015 series. She had high games of 214, 194 and 201. Sophomore Krystyna Panek had a 966 series with high games of 202 and 170.

York wrestling

York wrestler Austin Hoffmann competed in the recent Class 3A wrestling state finals in Champaign.

Hoffmann opened the 145-pound Class 3A tournament with a loss to Barrington’s Markus Hartman.

Hoffmann then moved to the consolation bracket where he lost to Mt. Carme’s Yahya Thomas.

Hoffmann finished the season with a 35-16 record.

York boys swimming

The York boys swimming team had a strong showing at the recent Downers Grove South sectional. York took third in the sectional with 147 points behind Hinsdale Central and Lyons Township. Those two schools won the last two IHSA state team titles.

York qualified four individuals for this weekend’s state finals meet.

Senior diver Peter Barabolak finished third in the sectional with 497.60 points.

He’ll be joined at state by freshman Branko Kosanovich, who placed fourth in the butterfly at 52.0.

Senior Flanagan Waldherr advanced in the 500 after taking second with a time of 4:41.60. Senior Alex Marlott took third in the backstroke with a time of 52.43.
