Willowbrook’s Jessen finishes second at state wrestling

Tiberi competes in girls’ state bowling finals.

Willowbrook junior wrestler Jack Jessen placed second in the state at the recent Class 3A state finals held in Champaign.

Jessen lost 13-3 to Chicago Heights Marian’s Kordell Norfleet, a senior, in the 182-pound state final.

Norfleet improved to 43-0 on the season.

Jessen ended his junior season 50-1 overall. He brought a perfect 50-0 record into the title match.

Jessen was impressive in getting to the state finals. He won his first match 19-7 and then scored a 13-3 win in the quarterfinals. He reached the title match after logging a technical fall victory in 3:33 by a score of 17-0.

Jessen took third at 182 pounds last year and was second in the state at 170 pounds as a freshman.

His three-year varsity wrestling record now stands at 153-8.

Jessen’s teammate Dominic Ranieri split a pair of matches in the Class 3A 132-pound division. He won his first match 10-8 and then lost by a technical fall in his second contest.

Ranieri finished the season 42-13.

Willowbrook bowling

Willowbrook bowler Jordan Tiberi competed in the recent girls state bowling finals at Cherry Bowl Lanes outside of Rockford.

Tiberi tied for 110th place on the first day of competition. She averaged 169.2 pins per game. TIberi had high games of 201, 178 and 171. She had a 545 series before the lunch break. Tiberi finished with a 1,015 series for her six games.

Willowbrook girls basketball

The Willowbrook girls basketball team dropped a recent 36-33 decision to Oak Lawn in Class 4A regional play.

Oak Lawn led 11-10 after the first quarter and 21-16 at halftime. Willowbrook outscored Oak Lawn 6-2 in the third quarter but was outscored 13-11 in the fourth quarter.

Katelyn McCann led the Warriors with 10 points and four rebounds. Hanna Konrath had nine points, five rebounds and two steals. Maureen Schmid finished with seven rebounds, while Jayla Smith had four steals.

Addison Trail-Willowbrook boys swimming

The Addison Trail-Willowbrook boys swimming team placed eighth at the recent Downers Grove South sectional with 55 points.

AT-Willowbrook did not advance any swimmers or relays to the state finals meet.
