EEDC welcomes new appointees, elects officers

According to a release issued by the City of Elmhurst, the Elmhurst Economic Development Commission (EEDC) has not only appointed two new members but also elected new officers.

Elmhurst Mayor Steve Morley recently appointed Julie Coan, vice president of merchandising for McMaster-Carr Supply Company, for a term to expire April of 2019. Coan has been employed at McMaster-Carr for 18 years, where she has worked in publishing, customer service and marketing, as well as her duties in merchandising for the company which provides materials and supplies to industrial and commercial businesses all over the world.Coan holds a B.A. from Northwestern University in American Studies. She and her husband have two daughters who attend Elmhurst schools.

Morley also appointed Nina Coppola to the EEDC for a term which expires April of 2018. Coppola is the co-owner of Christopher Steve Homes as well as contract project manager for MetLife Corporate Real Estate at Management Two.

Coppola owns Christopher Steve Homes, a building and general contractor in residential construction and remodeling. She is also one of three founding partners o fa residential real estate development and construction company called Trilogy Development Corp. An Elmhurst resident since 1989, Coppola has a Master’s degree in Urban Planning & Policy from the University of Illinois-Chicago.

In another announcement from the EEDC, the group recently re-elected William Shanklin as Chairman, a position he has held for about two years. Serving on the Commission since 2011, Shanklin was president of Century Container Corp. in Hillside from 1997-2002, following a career as president of Mechanical and Industrial Fasteners in Elgin, the Illumelex Corp. in Raleigh, NC, and as executive director and CEO of EHS Home Health Care in Oak Brook. He began his career in 1967 at McMaster-Carr Supply Company in Elmhurst

Shanklin also serves on the Elmhurst Veterans Memorial Commission and the Center for Professional Excellence Advisory Council at Elmhurst College. He is an active member of Rotary Club and the American Legion THB Post 187 in Elmhurst.

Rich Reichert has been elected Vice-Chairman of the EEDC. Reichert is president and CEO of Community Bank of Elmhurst following a long career with York State Bank and Suburban Bank of Elmhurst. He has been a member of the EEDC since its inception. In his role with Community Bank of Elmhurst, Reichert has served on the Board of Directors of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry, where he was elected Chairman of the ECCI Board in 2001. He is also Chair of the City of Elmhurst and Elmhurst College Commission. He also served on the Finance Review Task Force for School District 205. Other service includes the Board of the Elmhurst Heritage Foundation, the DuPage County Conservation Foundation’s Advisory Council and Elmhurst Lions Club. He is a member of the Epiphany Lutheran Church Council as well. Reichert holds a degree in Business Administration from Elmhurst College and currently serves as president of the Bluejay Backer Bunch. In 2013, he received the Bluejay Backer Community Service Award. In 2003, the Business Ledger selected Reichert as one of its Today’s Young Executives award recipients.
