Darryl F. May, 55

Darryl F. May, of Elmhurst, passed away recently at the age of 55. Beloved husband of Susan for 33 years; loving father of Christopher, Jonathan and Sarah; dear son of the late Alfred and Irene; brother of Alfred (Madeline), Rosemarie (Robert) Smith and Gerry (Valerie); uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Darryl was a devoted father and husband.  He was always involved in his children’s endeavors and willing to serve in leadership roles.   Proud of them always, he reveled in their shared love of running.  He was an active scout leader, coach, and camping enthusiast with a special love for the Northwoods.  He had a successful career in process improvement-based manufacturing management.  An avid Cubs fan, he was thrilled to see them prevail in 2016.

Funeral services were held at Epiphany Ev. Lutheran Church, 314 W. Vallette St., Elmhurst on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017. Interment Private. Dora Schenk, 97

Dora Lillian McLean Schenk, of Elmhurst, died January 24, 2017, at the age of 97. She was raised in a large family in rural Massachusetts and throughout her life displayed the zeal for active, positive engagement with life that she learned in her formative years. She earned a scholarship to the University of Illinois and there met her beloved husband, Arnold, with whom she raised a family and remained married for 75 years.

Dora loved both travel and entertaining at her home, where her door was always open to extended family, friends, and working associates. She loved the life of culture and devoted herself to volunteer activities for the Elmhurst Symphony, the Chicago Lyric Opera, the College and Community Committee for Elmhurst College, Elmhurst PEO, Elmhurst Walk-In Ministry, and others. She had a fulfilling career as a school guidance counselor, finishing at York High School as the chairman of the Guidance Department. Dora tried to make every moment of her life an enriching experience for all, and was greatly loved by family and friends for her kindness, generosity, warmth, and spirit.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold; brother, Robert McLean; children, Ron (Charlotte), Nancy (Jack) Kalionzes, Phil (Devney), and Barb (the late Marty) Ferguson; grandchildren, Nathan Link, Ashley Schenk, Becca Kenna-Schenk, Zee Vassos, Paul, Mark, and Tom Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Ben, Matthew, Claire, Charles and Lillian. Memorial Service to be held at the First Congregational Church of Elmhurst, 235 S. Kenilworth Ave., Elmhurst, Sunday, Feb. 5, at 1 p.m. with a reception following at the church from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elmhurst College/Elmhurst Symphony Auxiliary Scholarship Fund in Memory of Dora Schenk. Kenneth E. Broton, 78

Kenneth E. Broton, of Elmhurst passed away recently at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Karin J. nee Moe; father of Michael (Tena) and Thomas (Jessica); grandfather of Jennifer, James, Austin and Molly; brother of the late Byron Broton. Mary A. Verde, age 95

Mary A. Verde nee Sidder, formerly of Villa Park, passed away recently at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Carmen J. Verde. Loving mother of Francis (Bina), Robert (Amelia) and Richard (Carol) Verde. Dearest grandmother of 9 and dear great grandmother of 20.
