According to the City of Elmhurst, the Elmhurst Police Department was summoned to Lincoln Elementary School on the morning of Friday, April 29, to investigate after a small caliber bullet was found in one of the bathrooms.

The school was under a soft lockdown while police conducted a search. Instruction continued as usual in the classrooms, but movement throughout the building was restricted.

The origin of the bullet was finally identified about 10:30 a.m. The investigation revealed that the bullet was originally found on the outdoor playground. Police oversaw evidence technicians who used metal detectors to ensure that all evidence had been found and the playground and school were returned to safety.

Police stated that there was no danger to anyone at the school and that classes could proceed. As a precaution, and to reassure parents and students, police remained at the school until dismissal.
