Saturday, March 12 – Elmhurst Lions Club pizza party

From 5-7 p.m., the Elmhurst Lions Club will hold its 30th Annual Pizza Party fundraiser at Sandburg Middle School, 345 E. St. Charles Rd., Elmhurst. Tickets are $7 each or $35 for a family of five of more; children 6 and younger eat free. The event features All-You-Can-Eat pizza from Roberto’s and many raffle prizes for kids and adults. Thursday-Saturday, March 10 – 12

Visitation Catholic School 7th- and 8th-graders will perform “Godspell Junior” in the Valentino Center at Visitation School, 851 S. York Road. Saturday, March 12

“Geology as Destiny: Across the Chicago Portage, a story of Glaciers, Voyageurs, and Carp!” will be held at 2 p.m. at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave. Geologist David Dolak presents Chicago’s pre-eminence as the largest metropolitan area in the middle of North America as a result of the fortuitous conditions of access across the Mid-Continental watershed divide created by glacial processes over the past 10,000 years. The 60-minute lecture will include a live performance of an original song with lyrics based on the topic. Reservations recommended. Sunday, March 13

From 12:30-2:30 p.m., the Single Mothers Support Group (SHE) will meet at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. Program will be “Strong Bags, Weak Bags and Gift Bag,” a call to get emotionally healthy. Enjoy lunch with your child then childcare is available during program. Free. Guests invited. • Beginning at 6 p.m., the 20th annual Elmhurst Community Chess Tournament will be held in the York High School Commons. Students will compete at six levels: 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, 6-8th grade and high school. Registration deadline is Friday, March 11. • At 7 p.m., join the League of Women Voters of Elmhurst at the Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave., for a presentation by College of DuPage acting interim President Joseph Collins. The school was placed on probation status by the Higher Learning Commission recently due to concerns about its integrity and governance. Find out about the fate of the students, the use of tax dollars, the school’s reputation and how to move politics out of a school’s governing council. Free and open to the public. This is not a Elmhurst Library-sponsored event.

Thursday, March 17

• Happy St. Patrick’s Day – Be safe — if you plan to drink, please don’t drive. If your friends drink, don’t let them drive.

• At 7 p.m., at the Elmhurst History Museum, Collection Curator Nancy Wilson will host a Gallery Talk at the By All Accounts Exhibit on the 2nd floor of the Museum. Saturday, March 19

At 2 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum presents a Gallery Talk in the Patios, Pools Exhibit, currently on display there. The special exhibit on loan from the Smithsonian reveals themes relating to gardening and the environment. Receive seeds and a discount coupon to use at Pints, 112 So. York, good for that day only. • All men are invited to attend Men’s Fraternity at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church,

• A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.

• The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m.  Ribs available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
