Pick of the Week – An event not to be missed!

Saturday, Dec. 12 – Pink Christmas Dance for Annie

From 8 to 10:30 p.m., teens in 8th and 9th grade are invited to Wilder Mansion for the first-ever Pink Christmas Dance, held in honor of Annie Legere, a Sandburg 8th grader who passed away on August 25, 2015, after going into anaphylactic shock. Student tickets are $35 each. Proceeds will benefit Annie’s foundation “To The Moon And Back,” which helps raise funds and awareness of anaphylactic shock. Info: call Beth Plummer at 630-291-6569.

Sunday, Dec. 13

From 12:15-2:30 p.m., the Single Mothers Support Group (SHE) will meet at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road for its Christmas party. After dinner with the children, kids will be dismissed to engage in age-appropriate activities, while adults share spiritual thoughts fellowship and a game. All mothers go home with a gift. Saturday, Dec. 19

Join museum docent Sakina Bharani on a 60-minute guided tour of the “Legendary Diamonds” exhibit at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave. Includes short videos on the creation of the historical figures.  For group tours, call 630-833-1616. Saturday, Jan. 8

Bundle up because it’s time for the Chili Open at Sugar Creek Golf Course, 500 E. Van Buren in Villa Park. The 9-hole scramble begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Tickets are $140 per team and include frozen golf, hot chili, dinner buffet and prizes. This event goes on regardless of the weather, so dress accordingly. To register your foursome, call the clubhouse at (630) 834-3325.

Ongoing programs:

• “Beer Chicago,” on display now through Feb. 14, 2016, at the Elmhurst Historical Museum, 120 E. Park Ave. Take a look at beer culture, taverns, and breweries; learn about different beers brewed right here in Chicago; encounter the “bartender” at an interactive video kiosk. Admission is Free. • A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.

• The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m.  Ribs available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
