Pick of the Week – An event not to be missed!

Friday, Dec. 4 – Historical Museum presents Jolly Old St. Nicholas Concert

From 7-8:15 p.m., the Elmhurst Historical Museum presents the second annual Jolly Old St. Nicholas Concert to be held at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, located at 1099 S. York Street. Kids are invited to wear pajamas and come out for stories and songs about the season. Admission is free, parking available in the church lot. A hot cocoa bar will be available after the concert. Friday, Dec. 4

• The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation will host the 39th Annual Reindeer Route Housewalk There are two separate time blocks for the tours: one from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.; then from 6 – 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance, or $35 on the day of the event, available at any of the homes. Proceeds benefit the scholarship fund.

• The hospital will host its Love Lights celebration from 4:30 – 6 p.m. (between the day and evening hours of the Reindeer Route Housewalk) at 155 E. Brush Hill Rd. Includes an open house reception at the hospital’s East Entrance. At 5 p.m., the tree-lighting will take place, as the trees lining the Hospital’s Central Gardens are lit for the season. Saturday, Dec. 5

*Immaculate Conception Parish will hold the Council of Catholic Women’s 1st Annual Cookie Walk. The Cookie Walk will be held on Saturday, December 5th in Monsignor Plunkett Hall on the IC Campus from 10:00 am-2:00 pm, or until we run out of cookies.

What is a Cookie Walk? For the purchase price of $10.00, you will receive a bakery box,then proceed to tour around MPH and fill your bakery box with the cookies of your choice. Purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of our five Christmas baskets.

Vendors will be on hand with several holiday gift options. Sit and enjoy the festivities with coffee and donut holes (available with an donation).

• At 4 p.m. Faith Evangelical United Methodist Church invites you to a Community Candle Lighting Service at The Abbey, 407 W. St. Charles Road. This family-friendly Christmas service will feature special music including a selection by the Children’s Choirs. A collection of diapers and baby wipes for CareNet of DuPage will be taken. • At 7 p.m., the Second City Brass quintet will perform in concert at Bethel Church in Elmhurst as part of its Music@Bethel Concert Series. Tickets are adults $20, seniors $18 and students $5. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5-6

The Spirito! Singers will present Joyeux Noel—an Old-Fashioned Christmas Concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Elmhurst Christina Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road. Tickets are $23 each, available at spiritosingers.org or call 1-877-8WE-SING.

Saturday, Dec. 5

At 4 p.m., Faith Evangelical United Methodist Church will host a Community Candle Lighting Service at The Abbey, 407 W. St. Charles Road. Sunday, Dec. 6

• At 3 p.m. in Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus of Elmhurst College, the Elmhurst Choral Union (ECU) will perform a concert, “And on Earth, Peace,” featuring a professional orchestra led by James MacDonald and the ECU Chamber Choir. • At 3 p.m., the Genealogical Forum of Elmhurst welcomes Susan Maltese with a talk on “Libraries and Genealogy Research: How Libraries Can Offer Rewards” at the Community Bank of Elmhurst. Monday, Dec. 7

The Elmhurst Garden Club will hold its holiday luncheon at Wilder Mansion, 211 S. Prospect Avenue. This month we will be highlighting the 1950’s with a Disney theme as we continue to celebrate the Club’s 90th anniversary.   Social hour to begin at 11 a.m., luncheon at 12. Sunday, Dec. 13

From 12:15-2:30 p.m., the Single Mothers Support Group (SHE) will meet at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. for their Christmas party. After dinner with the children, kids will be dismissed to engage in age-appropriate activities, while adults share spiritual thoughts fellowhp and a game. All mothers go home with a gift. Ongoing programs:

• “Beer Chicago,” on display now through Feb. 14, 2016, at the Elmhurst Historical Museum, 120 E. Park Ave. Take a look at beer culture, taverns, and breweries; learn about different beers brewed right here in Chicago; encounter the “bartender” at an interactive video kiosk. Admission is Free. • A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.

• The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m.  Ribs available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
